The City of Ashland is located on the South Shore Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay. It offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern convenience. Ashland is an excellent starting point for the Apostle Islands National lakeshore and southern Ashland County. It’s home to Copper Falls State Park and Saint Peters Dome, as well as Morgan Falls. The historic city is located along U.S. Hwy. 2, which hugs the shores of Chequamegon Bay, and Lake Superior. There are many waterfront activities in Ashland, including hiking and biking, boating, kayaking canoeing canoeing fishing and camping. Many beaches offer views of the blue waters. The Lake Superior Waterfront Trail connects Maslowski Beach to Bayview Park & Beach. On the renovated pier at Bayview Park & Beach, you’ll find a diving board. Maslowski Beach on the west side Ashland is known for its natural spring water from Artesian Wells. Locals and tourists alike love to stop at the Artesian Wells. Ashland is home to a full-service 140 slip Marina, conveniently located in the center of Ashland.
The Ashland Oredock flies out almost 1/8 mile along the waterfront trail. This is a great place to birdwatch, run, fish or walk along the waterfront trail. Attractions in Ashland include: Beautiful Murals that depict the history of this over 150-year-old city. Ashland is the “Historic Mural Capital of Wisconsin”, a title that brings tourists from all over to visit and see these life size murals painted by two artists on the sides of historic brownstone buildings in an 8-block historic downtown business district. Two community murals can be found at the Chequamegon food co-op as well as the tunnel under Highway 2 that connects the beautiful Ashland Lakefront Trail to the Historic Downtown.
Ashland’s restaurants are all local owned and operated. Whitefish is the favorite fish found in the Chequamegon Bay and several fish to table restaurants such as the Chequamegon Grille, Deepwater Grille, and 2nd Street Bistro offer whitefish and other farm fresh entrees. Burger Barn is well-known for its delicious burgers and Cheese Curds from Wisconsin. There are five pizza parlors in Ashland, and three of them come from the same family. Each with a unique twist! El Charro offers authentic Mexican cuisine, while the New China Restaurant serves authentic Chinese food with an outdoor dining area. The Breakwater Restaurant, which offers beautiful views of the Ashland Lighthouse and the Ashland Family Restaurant are two family-friendly restaurants. The Ashland Baking Company is a well-known regional bakery for its fresh baked breads, and delicious desserts. There are many gluten-free options. Gabriele’s German Cookies and Chocolates, a true chocolatier, is located on Main Street. River Rock Inn & Bait Shop offers a wide range of fresh caught fish as well as smoked Lake Superior fish. Southshore Brewery is a local micro-brewery that is attached to Deepwater Grille. They specialize in American Pale Ale and Nut Brown Ale as well as seasonal favorites. Tastes of Wisconsin offers a wide range of Wisconsin flavors, including wine, homemade bratwurst, sausage, and excellent selections of cheeses, spices and fresh meat.

Ashland can be viewed as a four-season destination. It offers a variety of day trips, including Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands to the North and Copper Falls State Park in the South. There are also beautiful views all around.
