Hey it's 5ek professional landscape designer and welcome this channel is dedicated to those who love landscaping di wires and those are interested in landscape design if you've got landscape problems and you don't know what to do you are in the right place in this video I'm going to show you three different landscape designs for how to landscape a.
Hillside which is typically a pretty complex way to do it if you don't want to go with retaining walls but I got some tricks up my sleeves so let's jump right into the design we'll come right back I'm going to give you out a bunch of pro tips that'll save you some time and money and we're gonna have some fun let's go.
and all right we're back from the designs I organized these from design number one to design number three as least expensive to most expensive so let's jump into design number one and I'll explain why it's the least expensive Pro tips for design number one is use what you already have they have.
Tons of boulders already here but the problem is that the grass and everything is growing up in between them so here's what you got to do you would have to remove those excavate back put the boulders back in put landscape fabric behind and fill with clean rock or pea gravel or something like that so water permeates through but that's going to.
Separate the lawn from the boulders from the stuff creeping in from behind and make sure that everything works and is functional pro tip number two has to deal with keeping the grass from going out there so what you want to do is create a gravel bed create some kind of border or separation between the wall and the lawn.
So that if grass starts to creep in you can pretty much just take roundup and spray the pea gravel and you're good to go design number two we're moving up in the world we put in some stairs and then we've also put a paver patio at the base of the hillside so we're pretty much saying that our yard doesn't just end at.
The top and then this is just a hillside that's on cap we want you to use the full functionality of it is it functionality we want to use the whole thing we want want the whole yard to look nice we didn't buy this piece of property just for the top and then just try to avoid the hillside we want every square inch looking nice and functional.
Yeah pro tip number one has to do with the decorative gravel we took out the mulch and we supplement a decorative gravel instead it's a little bit more expensive I think it does better on a hillside with erosion but you don't have to re mulch every single year well mulch work absolutely but you're probably going to have to pocket in some boulders.
And some different plants to help with the erosion which leads me to pro tip number two pro tip number two we put some blue carpet junipers in the hillside now what this is doing is it's beautiful first of all but it's acting to help retain so this stuff is low to the ground almost like a ground cover you plant it and it's going to help with.
Erosion it's also going to pretty up the place easy simple and cost effective solution design number three we are moving up in the world we now have a gazebo with the TV I'm sure it's got that NFL Sunday Ticket we're having a blast but this one comes with a pretty penny pro tip number one has to do with the.
Retaining wall now we went from the boulder retaining wall to a block retaining wall because we were trying to repurpose the boulders that we've had already in the backyard if you got a little bit of extra money a little a lot extra money this is a pretty big wall I would go with the wall I think it's a more permanent solution I think with.
Boulders erosion and different things are going to kind of squeak through no matter how well you build them it's just kind of Mother Nature so if you've got the retaining wall you can bring it up to a height where you can level off the yard a little bit more and it's just a more permanent solution pro tip number 2 has to deal with the.
Stairs and how you can help with erosion and gravel going onto the stairs we line those with some holly bushes any kind of landscaping or bushes that you can put along the stairs so not only frame it so it looks beautiful but to help with erosion it's always a great idea question of the day which of these designs do you like the most I'd love to.
Hear from you write down in the comments below number one we've got a very simple most cost-effective solution where we repurposed as many boulders as we possibly could just did lawn and beds and called it a day number two was with the paver patio at the base and we put some stairs in we started to move up in the world I think.
This is also a really cool look and number three the most expensive we got a gazebo we got cable TV we got the NFL out there yeah we're living up life and it is what it is so let me know I'd love to hear from you if you like to dive deeper go onto my website consider subscribing and I'll see you on the next one.
